Inconsistent shard values

I'm sorry if this has been addressed somewhere, but I find it very irritating that the price per hard is variable when selling it goes from (in a 3 person party) from 23 to 8 per shard.
I collected a lot of shards but have not sold most of them as i feel i'm getting ripped off.

1 = 23 for the shard
2 = 31 so 8 for the shard
3 = 39 so 8 for the shard
4 = 48 so 9 for the shard
5 = 59 so 11 for the shard
6 = 70 so 11 for the shard
7 = 82 so 12 for the shard
8 = 93 so 11 for the shard
9 = 105 so 12 for the shard
10 = 117 so 12 for the shard
11 = 128 so 11 for the shard
12 = 140 so 12 for the shard
13 = 152 so 12 for the shard
14 = 163 so 11 for the shard
15 = 175 so 12 for the shard
16 = 187 so 12 for the shard
17 = 198 so 11 for the shard
18 = 210 so 12 for the shard
19 = 222 so 12 for the shard
20 = 233 so 11 for the shard
21 = 245 so 12 for the shard
22 = 257 so 12 for the shard
23 = 269 so 12 for the shard
24 = 280 so 11 for the shard
25 = 292 so 12 for the shard

It just seems its only really worth selling one shard at the time them dumping enough of them when you have a tonne.

True, the first shard is the most profitable. Each additional Warband member decreases the value of shards by 1 gold each.

Saving 1 shard after every battle may be a good idea in case your next battle is a loss and/or you get no wyrdstone shards.

It more or less does. There are important difference between original Mordheim and Warband Skirmish. The original wyrdstone prices were much higher but also much rarer, and dependent on having your characters survive to search. there were originally threshold sizes of the warband. Each new threshold would decrease the amount you got for wyrstone, so every 3 members is a new penalty.

So the overall rewards are about the same. BIGGEST difference is that equipment costs alot more here.

At least the rewards here are less complicated. It is really irritating when youre still earning 3-4 (30-40 gold) per match when you characters need Hochland Long Rifles (500+ gold) though.

It is absurd any time you get 1 Wyrdshard, ESPECIALLY when you fight a team of mostly heavily armored mercenaries.

Well they have informed me they are looking to the item prices, because it is stupid to both increase prices and reduce rewards. But that's for another thread.

Exploration procedure
1. Roll 1D6 for each of your Heroes who survived
the battle and one extra dice if you won, plus any
extra dice allowed by skills or equipment. Note,
however, that you must pick a maximum of six
dice out of all the dice you roll, even if you are
allowed to roll seven dice or more.
2. Some things, such as skills and equipment, (like
the Mordheim Map) may allow you to re-roll dice.
If your warband includes an Elf Ranger, you may
modify one dice by +1 or -1.
3. If you rolled any doubles, triples, etc, you have
found an unusual location in Mordheim. Consult
the Exploration chart on the next page to see
what you find. Refer to the appropriate entry on
the following pages and follow the instructions
given there.
4. Add the results together and consult the chart on
the next page to see how many shards of
wyrdstone you have found. Mark down the
amount of wyrdstone on your warband’s roster
sheet.

NUMBER OF WYRDSTONE SHARDS FOUND
Dice Result Shards Found
1-5 1
6-11 2
12-17 3
18-24 4
25-30 5
31-35 6
36+ 7

Number of warriors
No Shards: 1-3 4-6 7-9 10-12 13-15 16+
1 shard: 45 40 35 30 30 25
2 shard: 60 55 50 45 40 35
3 shard: 75 70 65 60 55 50
4 shard: 90 80 70 65 60 55
5 shard: 110 100 90 80 70 65
6 shard: 120 110 100 90 80 70
7 shard: 145 130 120 110 100 90
8+ shard: 155 140 130 120 110 100

As we can see, shards stop at 8, and for a warband of 7-9 the amount you get is 35, 15, 15, 5, 20, 10, 20, 10

So the system here isn't that different, and it allows you to save a lot more!

Actually is is. If they directly translated the original Mordheim Income table here profits would be up by about double.

Maximum warband is 7 gold and 8 with Fate Tokens. 1 shard per battle would be 35 gold. 3-4 shards would be about 62 gold. Ive gotten up to 11 shards in a really good game. That would be 130gold and just save the excess shards for the next game.

Maybe I could actually afford some of the ridiculously expensive weapons and armor?

Getting tiny amounts of shards at high tiers makes things nearly impossible. Take down 6(of7) enemies, them armed with heavy armor and Elven Longbows? "eh 2 shards for you"

Two further comments on this subject from me.

It seems you cant hold more then 25 shards i've not gotten more then 1 when i'm at 24 shards. So i'm going yo sell the 25 and rebuild and see if it happens again.

Second it would be real nice if you could sell shards after visiting the shop so you could decide if whats in there today is worth selling your shards.

Ive only ever once gotten 0 shards. There is little real reason to hoard up Shards, so you might as well sell them immediately.

Yea, you can. A LOT more ;)

There's a massive reason. Selling 2-4 shards is a terrible idea! It's always best to sell either 1, or 5+. So store some up if you have more then 5 just incase you get a low number.

Ive never seen a significant difference after the first shard. First one is 19 with 7 members and 1 more for each less warband member.

For me he price is down to about 7gold per shard. That is still ridiculously low when the next tier costs about 100 gold per weapon and after that 600 gold per rifle.

Anyone know how I can get 4000 gold?

Okay youre right. With diminished values from wyrdstone is means a big difference.

7 member warband
1=19 gold
2=6 gold
3=7 gold
4=8 gold
5=9 gold

It'll keep alternating between 8 and 9 shards from then on. So never sell 2 or 3 shards and you'll get there quicker!

Salj, Based on your OP, it seems to me it's most profitable to sell one shard after each match until you've saved up 7 (because with that warband size, you're never going to get a better price than 12 when selling in bulk and 7 shards is the first time that shows up). Good to know!!

After running the numbers through excel I agree with your numbers.
The chart below is there . I'll make another with 4 members and such but i think the additional member is a fixed penalty. Can anyone confirm that?

Mods please just increase the amount of gold for shards after the first. Its ridiculous that half the price is THE BEST you get and it can get much lower

The amounts of shards is pretty inconsistent so I dont know if just asking for the original Mordheims' wyrdstone values would be a good idea.

On the other hand, nah, give the original values. When replacement characters start costing over 100 gold(and a lot of levels) and equipment costs 100-1200 gold it really needs to be balanced out. After all, why take such high risks for tiny rewards HINT HINT.

Here is the list for a 4 man squad till 10, I'll do a full 25 one day but my skavens' need money.

1 = 22 for the shard
2 = 29 so 7 for the shard
3 = 37 so 8 for the shard
4 = 46 so 9 for the shard
5 = 56 so 10 for the shard
6 = 67 so 11 for the shard
7 = 78 so 11 for the shard
8 = 89 so 11 for the shard
9 = 100 so 11 for the shard
10 = 112 so 12 for the shard

Based on this I know I should run at least to 25 so we can reasonably see if there is a repetition like the 3 man.

10 = 107 so 11 for the shard
11 = 117 so 10 for the shard
12 = 128 so 11 for the shard

Of course I need more data but I just want to play and give some data.

Are you still posting those? Its the same thing repeated. You lose 1 gold from each shard you sell depending on how many members you have.

The inconsistency is two-fold. #1 the value is unbalanced as you should either sell 1 or 10, not 2-3. #2 the actual find rate and reward value for wyrdstone shards isnt consistent with the economy. Youre supposed to work towards entire teams of upgraded characters with Gromril melee weapons/Hochland Long Rifles, heavy armor, and consumables. The actual reward value is too low to pay for replacements let alone any significant upgrades.

It's actually not if you look at the numbers 4 squad whent 7,8,9,10,11. By your formula the numbers for 5 should be 6,7,8,9,10 but it's 7,7,9,10,10. That's two more than youd expect using your formula.

Here is the list for a 6 man squad till 10, I'll do a full 25 one day at least I'm finding more shards

1 = 20 for the shard
2 = 27 so 7 for the shard
3 = 34 so 7 for the shard
4 = 42 so 8 for the shard
5 = 51 so 9 for the shard
6 = 61 so 10 for the shard
7 = 71 so 10 for the shard
8 = 81 so 10 for the shard
9 = 91 so 10 for the shard
10 = 102 so 11 for the shard
11 = 112 so 10 for the shard
12 = 122 so 10 for the shard

Looking at the limited data I have looks like there's a different curve per number of guys in the squad.
