Warlocks

Any ideas on good warlock builds? :)

I added one to my ~1900 rating warband but I can't seem to find any useful roles for him at this point in the game so I'm considering kicking him out.
Not sure what he can do once all your opponents basically have Gromril armour, toughness, max wounds, two-handed swords and three attacks.

To be honest, I find the Warlock to be very underwhelming. 4/4 fireball does lacklustre damage. I'm skilling mine in BS with the hope that he will provide more support. At the moment, I use him for scouting and capping Wyrdstone.

I totally agree. And with a max bs of something like 45-50 the silver arrows feels like a weak option too. It's not like they will punch through most armor and even if they can he won't be hitting half of the time with no additional shooting skills.

I've yet to try it but perhaps he would also work at light crowd control with his ranged fear spell.. it's never worked very well sofar (though I haven't put many points in it). On the rare occasion my Warlocks level, I get skills like streetwise, haggle and Wyrdstone Hunter as I don't want to waste skill points on an actual combat character.

I found they are solid against weak warbands,
I use mine mainly as a support though atm.
Buffing with the luck spell to whomever i using as the sacrifical goat (pin cusion) against heavy range warbands
But i like to also run him into combat with the sword occasionally if I see a squishy target and minimal risk associated with the charge.
The arrows supply a nice move to keep him safe but producing damage against melee heavy armies.
The fear thing is great crowd control, a dude held me off almost single handedly with that making three of my warriors run for the hills with my captain and warlock to hold off their 5 left (I had been using hit and run tactics)
Havent used fireball but I feel it needs a buff, like that it gets better (hot armour would hurt the wearer) in amour or ignores it, havent seen it fully in action yet but I am guessing it is great for close support to the front line.
The moving spell is also really useful, lacks stealth, but still great way to move around especially when maxed out.

As such the Warlock isnt a specialist in any area.
Since I run a
Pistolier, (captain)
Freelancer,
Pit fighter,
Warlock,
Warrior,
Range units.
He is the jack of all trades,
Can flank and destroy range with Pit Fighter,
Can deal high damage backing up front line and support in it if needed (with pistolier).
Hit from range.
And as stated before buffing teammates.

Though if you team is a specialist team, he is kinda useless a he never becomes great at anything, lacks any armour penetration and armour himself also.

Yeah. Running him with an undead war and myself and I feel like his main role right now is buffing one warrior and that seems like a waste. Especially if warband rating.
I guess what I'm missing is ranged and that's where he should go but everything I face is in full gromril so he can't really do any damage, even if he could hit, so I'm considering letting him go in favour of more ppl with gromril and two-handed weapons.

I saw an AI Warband with, I think, four Warlocks a Necromancer and a pack of Zombies. They just spammed Fear and Fireballs and wore me down or passed enough turns to win via objectives. When I closed with them though I tore through them. The Fear of Agramar(?) was more effective than the Fireballs, which looked impressive but had little impact.

I've faced the same warband :) My Vamp has huge Ld and his comet Maul made short work of them as they clumped together. High Initiative helped me get in first. Fun battle *grins sheepishly*. I think I'll have to dust the fear spell off and give it some attention. Looks like my Warlock can become useful again. Thanks for the insights guys o7

I find having one Warlock helpful:
1) Mostly to gather shards and looting dead bodies in the Palace map.
2) PVP - holding onto an objective circle by flying in at the last turn
3) bumping up the BS to 40 - 50, it can be effective to fly in an throw water at a vampire.
4) they start with a higher initiative and can max at 75 so normally they go first. Sometimes have him fly up to reveal hidden warriors for the rest of my warband to attack.

My cap has gromil armor + visored helmet + rod of will + pistol
60 ws 45 shooting skill 45 strength 14 wounds
Level 40 maxed out luck and fiery sword
Only think that can stop him is either vamp or 4+ hochland long Rifles
